No words or even photographs can do Berghuisie justice and we certainly did not want to leave after 5 days. Should have booked longer! We had plans to do loads of hikes and exploring, but it’s hard to pull yourself away from the view. The plunge pool is a welcome relief from the summer heat. The inspiring design is incredibly well thought out, couldn’t fault a thing. Even in the height of summer heat we did not use the aircon as the ventilation from the numerous doors and windows was cooling enough. We opted to go on a game drive which I would highly recommend! The reserve is beautiful and the wildlife was magical. The Klein Karoo is a place to appreciate the smaller things and balance in nature. Alwyn ensured we had the best experience on the drive and Annatjie made us feel at home. Meat from the farm was also delicious!! It’s a long way from Cornwall, but we’ll return for sure!

The Aarvark Bioreserve was a last-minute find for my fiance and me who were looking to escape the hectic world and relax. For me and my partner, the Klein Karoo is a special place to escape, and Aarvark just made it even better. With a stunning private cottage, luxurious accommodations, a hot tub under the Karoo sky, and outstanding service, everything is just perfect. You can use fresh produce from the large vegetable garden, and Annatjie made us some delicious vetkoek and fig jam. Don't forget to order your Karoo meat directly from Annatjie. Nothing like Karoo lamb chops, ostrich wors on a braai in the Karoo while watching the Curry Cup rugby. The staff were so friendly and professional, and nothing was too much trouble. It is a wonderful experience to take a walk on the many trails, especially when you see the beautiful animals that are privileged to live here. We cannot wait to visit again soon.

An absolutely incredible stay at Aardvark at the Berghuisie. We have so many people asking about the place in our socials. Very warm hosts who understand the human touch. Special thanks to Annatjie. We enjoyed the fresh produce and meat foraged from the farm. Beautiful and dreamy view of the nearby dam and picturesque mountains. We will certainly be back.

An amazing time in an amazing place! My wife and I visited Aardvark for our anniversary, and it was such a beautiful experience. From being greeted at the gate to the thoughtful touches throughout the place, it was worth every cent to hold on to such a wonderful memory! With stunning 180-degree views of the Brandriver at Berghuisie, we couldn’t have asked for better. Nature was literally at our doorstep, with birdwatching and breathtaking scenery. I would highly recommend this stay to anyone seeking a romantic getaway!

My partner and I visited Berghuisie in June 2024 and spent the weekend in complete luxury! The location on the dam was absolutely stunning, the views priceless and the peace we enjoyed for the weekend was perfect. The cottage with its glass walls, views of the dam and wildlife, comfort and cosiness was perfect! We love being off-grid and Berghuisie fulfilled all we were looking for. Annatjie warmly welcomed us on arrival and immediately made us feel at home. She was very reachable when we had questions. We went on a game drive with Alwyn that evening and learned so much about the area and I was able to see animals I've never seen, what a treat for this American girl! We ordered our proteins before arrival: Springbok, Gemsbok, lamb and chicken, and we have loved eating them since returning home. We cooked the Gemsbok while there and it was delicious! I was able to reach Annatjie for cooking recommendations on how to prepare the Gemsbok - I was so appreciative as I wasn't sure how to make it! They delivered to us fresh Vetkoek that was so kind and absolutely delicious! With it, we had the fresh organic produce provided. We made fires both nights that kept us warm and the cottage warmed right up. On our second night there we took a nice hot bath overlooking the dam. We spent time on the decks watching the birds and other wildlife and on Saturday afternoon took a hike to the dam. We look forward to our next trip to Berghuisie and highly recommend it for a couples getaway! Alwyn and Annatjie made the experience just wonderful, the perfect people to be running Aardvark!

Truly one of my best finds on Airbnb. Any couples looking for a romantic getaway far from the maddening crowd need look no further! Epic mountain bike trails and the best lamb chops in the Karoo. Just what we needed. Very beautiful. Definitely the BEST pod we have stayed in in South Africa. The farm manager Alwyn and Annetjie were very helpful. We foraged for eggs and vegetables so you do not need to take much food with you. They even offer a menu of meats which we took advantage of. All from the farm. Ostrich, Chicken, Springbok and Lamb Chops. All fresh delicious and affordable. We haven't tasted chicken like that since we were kids. The views and peacefulness are unmatched. I read 2 books in 4 days. Reminder to take a book or two with you. The Pod has 2 decks to sit on weather depending. It is air conditioned which was awesome. It is fully off the grid and the water is pure and drinkable. The hot tub is cool to sit in at night as the stars are spectacular as you're in the middle of nowhere. If you run out of anything, you call Annetjie, and Alwyn will deliver ASAP. We highly recommend you add this to your bucket list.

Special location as a base for unique mountain bike adventures! We felt very welcome; the hosts were so hospitable! Amazing. The opportunity to buy some vegetables directly from the farm is just one thing which makes the stay so nice. It was fantastic to combine the stay with nice mountain bike tours through fantastic, huge landscapes and awesome trails! We have been lucky and could see some wild animals too. The location is exceptional, and the accommodation feels comfortable.

This place is absolutely magic. Very beautifully decorated. The kitchen is super well equipped. Even more than what was listed. The hot tub was an absolute winner. We also loved the waterhole right in front of our cottage. The hosts treated us to some arrival gifts and a freshly baked farm break the next morning. As I said super special experience.

Absolutely incredible! Slice of heaven in the Klein Karoo. Annatjie and Alwyn were amazing at hosting us while Koemie was away and we felt very looked after, but somehow they also managed to leave us feeling peaceful and private. The decor is beautiful and so tasteful, the kitchen had more than what we expected and the farm itself is tucked in a unique and magical part of the country. Stunning location and house. The house pictures look amazing but it’s even more stunning when you walk in. The game drive with Alwyn was incredible as we didn’t realise how big the Bioreserve was. Highly recommend this if you want a quiet and very stylish time with nature.

Someone has put a lot of love and effort into making this place special! From the warm welcome by Annetjie and Alwyn to the very comfortable and modern accommodation in a peaceful environment, where game watching can be enjoyed from your stoep, it’s a 10 out of 10! We also loved the many walking and MTB trails suited to different fitness levels. They are well maintained, clearly signposted, and the vistas are absolutely stunning!

Speechless. Certainly THE most well-equipped, picture-perfect visit we have ever had. We stayed in the Zebra cottage where Alwyn and Annatjie were our amazing hosts - from the awesome tour of the farm to the fresh veggies and eggs with a surprise vetkoek and jam visit. Owners Nico and Koemie have established accommodation on a picturesque lifestyle farm that is definitely unmatched and will be our benchmark for any bookings in future. We really enjoyed our stay here. Everything was top quality and very well thought out. For anyone who likes cooking - the kitchen has everything you need and more. Load shedding didn't affect us as they have installed a great solution and the outdoor fire-heated hot tub was gorgeous, especially watching the stars at night. We enjoyed great hikes, encountering the Zebra and Springbok wandering around the land, had a braai and one of the evenings enjoyed movies in the very comfortable snug with Netflix. There were also a lot of lovely personal touches such as a gift on arrival and our hosts were extremely responsive to requests for more firewood and anything else we needed. Two things to mention, it is 25-30 minutes to the nearest town so come well prepared although in a beautiful peaceful environment, the cottage is located on a working farm so not completely remote. Having said this, we never felt like we didn't have complete privacy. A wonderful stay - well recommended.

Beautiful! What a great city escape and amazing to have such a fully equipped house. Five-star experience on all fronts. Annatjie was a lovely host, always ready happy to help, and proactive. The place itself is in a nice peaceful location. It had anything you could need to prepare a meal, the ice maker, spices etc were a nice extra too. Comfortable beds! Amazing hot tub views of the Milky Way at night or of zebras and elands in the day! We did a short hike, which was also lovely! Would definitely come back. Special place!

Wow, what wonderful hosts you all are! The stay we had at Aardvark Bioreserve was truly great. Our absolute highlight was the exceptionally well-constructed mountain bike and walking trails in this beautiful arid environment. Our Zebra Cottage was exactly as described and everything we could have wished for, done tastefully with such attention to detail...home from home. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and we felt comfortable in the cottage. A bonus was the delicious warm vetkoek baked by Anna, the great drinking water, being offered fresh produce from the farm and having Netflix in the evenings, even though every evening can be spent just relaxing outside in the most peaceful atmosphere. Alwyn went out of his way to show us where the best riding is and where all the tracks are and then took us on a wonderful sundowner drive to see the wildlife, plants and birds. Just lovely! Well done to you all and we will be back soon!

Our stay at Aardvark Bioreserve was nothing short of magical. The staff was warm, helpful and friendly. The decor is done tastefully and well thought out. The space had all the amenities and luxuries that you need for a relaxing stay. The highlight was the 3-hour game drive on their beautiful Karoo farm! Everything was perfect! A slice of Klein Karoo paradise. A wonderful stay in a gorgeous cottage (Springbok Cottage) with all the amenities you need: a hot tub, private boma and braai area, and indoor fireplace. Fresh farm veggies, free-range eggs and a welcoming touch were most appreciated. The cottage is beautifully decorated and comfortable. They use an inverter, so no load shedding. There are games and books for cold Karoo nights. We were visited by Springbok and Zebra. We enjoyed the bike trails. A fantastic break away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

We give the Springbok cottage a 10 out of 10. That whole experience on that farm was fantastic. Hiking and MTB are well-designed and challenging. Koemie, Annetjie and Alwyn are wonderful and so kind. Nothing is too much trouble for them and we were even spoiled with “vetkoek” (thank you to the chef!) A big thank you! Can’t wait to go back

We had a wonderful peaceful stay in the aptly named Springbok cottage. Browsing Springbok on the hillside with amazing sunsets over the Langeberg. The MTB Trails are really fun and you really get out into the landscape with bonus game viewing. Loved the new game MTB Trails. Annatjie and the team were very welcoming and helpful. Incredible, big, and spacious house and lovely hosts and owners! Loved the luxurious decor and the little hot tub outside. House has everything you can think of, and they have fresh produce on-site to order. Wildlife all around. Great space for riding our bikes or going for walks! Very big house which was just right for our group of friends. The area is very picturesque and calm. The house is well equipped with everything needed. Very responsive, helpful and friendly hosts who were very approachable and flexible with check-in/check-out times and also provided lots of pleasant compliments, such as some wines, pastries and fresh juice. The host gave us a sunset safari around the farm which was very exciting as we were able to see some wild animals. Highly recommended place and great hosts! Thanks for such an unforgettable long weekend!
